History

On the 9th January 2003, on the initiative of 3 friends of Orihuela who were members of the Club of Amigos of the 600 of Elche, the Club of the 600 and Classics of Orihuela and Vega Baja was formed. That day, Venancio Ruiz Lidón, and 13 others (including an Englishman) with Seat 600 and Classic cars met to choose the name of the Club, to form the board of directors and to draw up the Constitution and Standing Orders of the Club.

They are the 14 founder members, the first 14 cars were 13 Seat 600 and a Mercedes. A little more than a year later, from three friends, the members increased to 75, two of them being Honorary Members. There are now 71 cars comprised of Seat 600s and Classic Cars. The classic cars consists of a wide variety of makes: Mercedes, Dodge Dart, Packard, Mini, Renault, Volkswagen "Beetle", BMW Mini 600, Citroën, Morris, MG, Rover, Fiat, Bentley, etc., and the antiquity goes from the 1920s to 1979, since the requirement to belong to the club is that the cars have to be a minimum of 25 years old.

Manuel Medina Cañizares, Excmo. Mayor of Orihuela.
